Obtaining and Renewing a Tax Certificate
Tax certificates are no longer obtained from the tax office; they are printed from the Interactive Tax Office. We explained who needs to obtain one, the renewal period, and the visibility obligation in e-commerce.

A tax plate (tax registration certificate) is a document that shows your business is a registered taxpayer and displays the earnings declared for the previous period.
It used to be obtained with an official stamp from the tax office. Now, you generate and print it yourself; no certification is required.
Who is required to have one?
Income tax payers with commercial, agricultural, or professional earnings, as well as corporate tax payers, are required to obtain a tax plate.
This means whether you have a sole proprietorship or a limited company, the obligation applies. Those taxed under the simple procedure method are also covered.
The plate must be kept at the workplace, in a location visible to customers. If you have branches, a separate plate must be kept for each.
How is it obtained?
The process is entirely online:
1. Log in to the Interactive Tax Office (using your e-Government password or the user code obtained from the tax office).
2. Go to the tax plate section and view the plate for the relevant period.
3. Print it out or save it as a PDF.
Your financial advisor can also generate your plate within the scope of the intermediary agreement. This is how it is handled for most businesses.
Renewal period
The tax plate is renewed every year. Since the information on the plate is based on the previous year's declaration, the new period's plate is generated after annual tax returns are filed.
There is a set deadline for renewal, which can change from year to year. When there is an extension in tax return deadlines, the plate date may also shift.
Practical tip: Generate your plate immediately after your annual declaration is filed and keep a copy in your digital archive. That way, you won't have to remember it later.
The situation in e-commerce
If you sell over the internet, your tax plate information is expected to be visible on your website instead of a physical workplace wall.
If you have your own site, you generally publish this information on the "About Us" or "Contact" page. If you sell on marketplaces, it is requested in the store information fields.
E-commerce regulations also require the display of your trade name, address, and contact information. We covered other e-commerce obligations in the e-commerce and artisan tax exemption article.
Frequently asked questions
What happens if I don't display the plate?
Special irregularity fines can be applied. It is one of the most easily detected deficiencies during inspections.
What does a newly established business do?
Since there are no declared earnings for the first year, the plate will not contain earnings information; it is issued with tax registration details. We explained the establishment steps in the establishing a sole proprietorship article.
Can I query another company's tax plate?
You can check basic information using the Revenue Administration's taxpayer verification services. This is a good check to perform before working with a new supplier.
Does the plate need to be certified?
No. The printout obtained from the system is valid; you do not need to have it approved separately.
A tax plate is a five-minute transaction. When forgotten, however, it turns into an easily preventable fine.
